FRET BEVELING FILE - Adjustable Angle From 0 to 35 Degrees

The file is mounted in a thermoplastic bar that is rotated for the bevel angle required and is adjustable for producing any fret bevel angle from 0 to 35 degrees. 

The geometry of the round bar and flat file creates a small void over the fret corner that allows for sharp burrs to pass through. This reduces build up of filings and subsequent compaction on the tool.

The file angle can be locked in any position. A graduated end plate provides angular reference in 5 degree increments.

The variable angle feature is particularly beneficial where string spacings encroach the fret ends, typically from frets 1 to 5, as a steeper bevel angle minimizes string roll-off.

ADJUSTABLE FILE DEPTH

The file depth is adjustable allowing retracted use over the guitar body. Allen head socket screws are provided to adjust the file extent and to clamp the file in position. 

MINIMUM CUTTING DEPTH

The minimum cutting depth is nominally 2.5mm from the fret tops when the file is positioned at the maximum 35-degree angle.

The file can be extended by a further 3mm for longevity and swapped around, further increasing its usage.

MOUNTING BLOCK

The tool features a hand finished oak mounting block.

The underside of the block features a machined radius radius that allows for smooth movement over the frets, for a consistent bevel angle.

FILE DETAIL

The file grade is 2nd cut smooth, suitable for alloy and stainless steel frets, providing high removal rate combined with a good finish. The file corners are rounded at both ends. One edge has safe corners and the opposite edge has file teeth.

The nominal file dimensions are 135mm (5.25") long x 15mm wide x 4.2mm thick.

RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE

Use a shallow angle for filing flush @ 0-5 degrees. Then adjust to 20-25 degrees for a secondary cut. A final dress at the preferred angle can then be made. After each use, brush away any filings from the file and holder.
