FRET CROWNING TOOL - Crowns, deburrs & polishes frets
CROWNS THE FRET TOPS & POLISHES THE SIDES
PROTECTS AGAINST FILING OVER THE FRET TOPS
ALSO DRESSES THE FRET ENDS
UNIQUE SYSTEM
The system uses metalworking emery abrasive (blue twill cloth backed) and provides an alternative solution to using a traditional fret crowning file. The underside of the crowning tool has a concave abrasive pressure face that matches the fret profile and a central gap which safeguards the fret top.
The system is suitable for the majority of applications where moderate levelling has been performed. For hard frets or heavily levelled frets, some local filing may be beneficial before using the tool.

2-TOOL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE:
1) MEDIUM DUTY TOOL
The medium duty crowning tool features a slim stainless steel body and is supplied with 2 grades of industrial emery - medium and coarse.
The medium duty tool is suited to crowning fretwire from 2.0mm to 2.7mm wide.
2) HEAVY DUTY TOOL
The heavy duty crowning tool features an offset hardwood handle and is supplied with 3 grades of industrial emery - medium, coarse and extra coarse.
The heavy duty tool is suited to crowning fretwire from 2.0mm to 3.0mm wide.
METHOD
For best practice, the abrasive should be trimmed along the bottom of the tool with some shears. A small spreader is supplied to work the abrasive against the tool at each side of the central gap.
As the abrasive wears, new emery can be fed through the tool. As an approximate guide, each new abrasive portion will dress a single fret and 1-2 strips of abrasive will be required to crown a complete guitar.
As the emery becomes smoother, the metalworking emery adopts unique finishing properties and the fret can be polished using the same abrasive.
