CONCEPT
The Guitar Workstation & Fret Press is a modular guitar press system with an integrated guitar support stand. The workstation is constructed from high quality materials including oak, stainless steel and aluminium.
 
In addition to the functions of the press, the design considerations include comfortable working height, maximum guitar support and stability in use. The construction is robust and the assembled system weighs approximately 18kg / 40lbs.
 
The overall base dimensions are 600mm diameter x 450mm wide. The configuration allows the assembled workstation to be pivoted around its centre for the best working position. You can easily orientate the workstation to move the fret press to the rear when not in use and place the workstand docking position at the front for easy access.
 
The system is capable of pressing all fret positions on solid body guitars and acoustic guitars.

FRET PRESS SYSTEM
The fret press comprises of 2 extruded aluminium posts fitted with an adjustable height press beam. The distance between the posts is 360mm for spanning the upper bout or horns.
 
The screw press mechanism is mounted at the centre of the beam. The press screw pitch is 1.5mm and typically a single turn of the handle is required to press the fret into position after initial fret pressure is met.
 
The beam height is adjustable and secured to the posts by locking screws at each side. Extra locking plates and bottom stop plates are also provided.

FRET PRESS CAULS
The workstation includes a full set of cauls:
Stainless Steel Flat Cross Section (10 piece set) - 7.25", 9.5", 10", 12", 14", 15", 16", 17", 20" & Flat.
The cauls have a flat cross section/fret contact face. This affords easy seating on the fret and allows a small degree of angular and radial misalignment between the tool and guitar.
 
OPTIONAL - Brass Grooved Cauls are also available from the webstore.
 
MODULAR GUITAR SUPPORT STAND
The modular workstand is included with the workstation - see separate detail for information on this. The stand comprises of a solid oak base fitted with a raised neck caul and mounting holes for the body supports. The stand supply includes support pads at each end for free standing use (these are removed when the stand is used in the press).
 
NECK SUPPORT CAUL
The neck caul has a cork covering and is 250mm (10") long. The shallow curved recess centralises and supports the neck whilst allowing good access to the sides of the fretboard and fret ends.
 
UNIVERSAL GUITAR BODY SUPPORT
The universal guitar body support is made from marine plywood and kerfed to create support for the arch of the guitar back. The pad is covered with neoprene foam to protect the guitar. The support is suitable for acoustic guitars and semi-acoustics. The height of the support is adjusted until the neck is horizontal along the caul.
 
SOLID BODY GUITAR SUPPORT
The solid body support will accommodate different neck angles and body thicknesses. Both height and angle of the support are adjustable via separate screw jacks. Adjustment is made by turning the screw jacks until the neck is correctly supported and then locking in position using the side thumb screws.
 
WORKSTATION BASE & EXTENSION TABLE
The workstation base features an 18mm thick treated marine ply board, equipped with locking clamps and centralising blocks, ensuring secure and precise operation. This allows the workstand to be guided and clamped centrally underneath the press, while the supplied small extension table provides additional support during transitions.

The base is secured over the bottom member of the press via heavy duty 8mm diameter countersunk allen screws. Adjustable feet are fitted to support the board at the outer corners. The extension table is fitted with rubber feet and is butted against the edge of the board and positioned to suit.
 
FRETBOARD TONGUE SUPPORT
The tongue support is mounted off the cross beam. Height adjustment is made via the top knurled thumb nut and the support is clamped using the lower thumb wheel.  
 
FRETBOARD CLAMP STRAP
The strap is secured by two swing bolts and provides extra stability when setting up the tongue support and fretting over the soundboard. It can also be used to lock the guitar onto the stand for movement around the workshop. 
 
HEEL SUPPORT SCREW JACK
The jack is moved horizontally for best position underneath the heel. The screw height is adjusted until the heel is contacted under light pressure.
